Summer and books go hand-in-hand for me! Well, books and every season go hand-in-hand for me, but I find that most people have a little extra time while sitting by the pool or the shore to read something fun this time of year. Here are this year’s reading suggestions!
· Summer at Tiffany by Marjorie Hart: This is one of my favorite easy reads! It is a memoir of the summer Marjorie and her best friend moved to New York City for a summer job in 1945. They were the first women to work on the floor at Tiffany, not a sales women, but runners from the sales floor up to the repair departments, and they had to stand ready on the edge of the showroom. It is a very heart warming story of their adventures in NYC of yesteryear.
· The Girl with the Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier: I have not read this one yet, but I am adding it to my list! The story is about Griet, a fictional character imagined into the young woman in Vermeer’s most celebrated painting.
· The Necklace by Claire McMillan: The main character, Nell, is left a beautiful and expensive necklace from her great-aunt who recently passed away. She has to navigate jealous relatives, hidden family history from the 1920’s, and a mysterious provenance to the necklace.
· Emeralds and Envy by Angela McRae: I am a fan of cozy mysteries, and while I haven’t read this one yet, I am looking forward to it! Emma Madison is a jewelry designer in a small town in Georgia and finds someone murdered at the antique store. Emma is determined to find the person responsible for her friend’s death (bonus: there is a cat on the cover!).
I am giving you a permission slip to take time out for yourself and read for the rest of the summer! Studies show that reading prevents cognitive decline, reduces stress, and aides in sleep, amongst other things. I have just added two more books to my list, for health reasons, of course. What about you?
